Back to School Night - Lower School - Sept. 26

This parent-only evening on Thurs, Sept. 26, will begin in the campus Meetinghouse at 6:30 pm with words from Liza Long, Head of Lower School; the Lower School Student Resource Team; and our co-curricular teachers. After the Meetinghouse program, parents of students in PK3 – 3rd grade will proceed to their child’s classroom in Walbrooke, parents of 4th grade students will head to their Tanglewood classroom, and 5th grade parents will come to the Yarnall Library for the 5th grade team’s presentation. Classroom activities will wrap up by 8:30 pm.

Spirit Week 2018

Get ready for Spirit Week, Sept. 23-27! Catch the spirit and have your children join in the fun!

LS Class Photo

Lower School students had their class photos taken the week of Sept. 16. The packets will arrive in about four weeks and will be sent home with your child. The packet includes one 5” x 7” class picture, two 4” x 5” individual photos, and four individual wallet-sized photos. The cost of the packet is $35.00, payable to Stone Photography.  If you have more than one child in the Lower School, you may combine their payments on one check. Checks are to be turned into the Lower School office. Click here for more info.

Sandy Spring Monthly Meeting

The Sandy Spring Monthly Meeting would like to invite SSFS families to join for worship and religious education on Sunday mornings. Meeting for Worship begins at 11:00 in the Meetinghouse on Sundays. At 11:15 children are invited to attend First Day School until the end of Meeting. Find out more here...

7th Grade Signature Trip

The Fall Signature Field Trip for seventh graders is just around the corner, Oct. 17-18. Students will be spending the two days bonding with classmates, doing service work, and exploring the principle of sustainability.  A detailed letter about the trip along with a supply list was sent home last week. Upper School Info Night for Current Middle School Families - Tues, Oct. 1

The Upper School will hold its annual Information Night for Current SSFS Middle School Families on Tuesday, October 1, at 6:45 pm in Studio B of the Performing Arts Center (PAC). This Information Night is a great opportunity for parents and guardians to talk with members of the Upper School faculty and administration. While students are invited to attend, the night will be primarily geared toward parents. Conservation Discovery Day

Any interested 8th-12th grade students are welcome to sign up to join Alice and John for Conservation Discovery Day at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Luray, VA. This is a first come, first served all day field trip on Saturday, Oct 5, leaving school at 7:30 am and returning around 5:30 pm. It's a great chance to explore the wide range of science careers available in Wildlife Management and Conservation. Find out more...

On Saturday, September 28, the senior class will be hosting the Spirit Day Dance in Studio B in the PAC from 8 – 11:00 pm. This dance is open to all Upper School students, and may be the first high school dance for many. Please click here to see policies and guidelines for students and their guests. Students who want to bring a guest to the dance must have the guest complete an Emergency Contact and Permission Form.These must be turned in to Ben McClellan, the Upper School Dean of Students, by 3:35 pm, Friday, September 27. US Italian Student Exchange

ICYMI: An email was recently sent out to families of 10th-12th grade students this week to announce the Italy Exchange program. If you are interested in hosting an Italian student or two from Friday, October 18 to Saturday, October 26th, or you are interested in participating in the exchange to Italy from Thursday November 21st to Saturday the 30th, please fill out this Google form. If you have any questions, please reach out to Sunshine Klein.
